Beaming smiles should be the order of the day at Children's Hospices UK's Bristol base for a good few weeks, following the success of the organisation's donorflex-sponsored Tools of the Trade conference in Birmingham.

Fundraisers from more than 20 children's hospices were treated to a full day of thought-provoking presentations and insightful workshops that didn't fail to inspire.

Hats off to conference chair Bridget Turner's organising team, which uses donorflex and put together what will surely be regarded as the strongest programme for many years.

The hints of economic recovery meant the conference content was as pertinent as possible. For many, the highlight of a great day was saved until last, with Prof Michael West's closing plenary on ‘Innovation and creativity at work'.

He underscored why the best results come when organisations, teams or collaborative group work in a way that:

  • Identifies, develops and uses its collective talents properly
  • Builds its success on foundations of fairness, justice, creativity, empowerment, leadership

In short, he was inspirational.

"We await news of next year's event with interest – it will be tough to top the Aston Conference event," says donorflex managing director Brian Todd.
